When Orville the cat was hit and killed by a car, his new life and fame began. Dutch artists Bart Jansen and Arjen Beltman created the Orvillecopter.

Jansen said the Orvillecopter is “half cat, half machine” and pays tribute to his pet Orville, who was named after the famous aviator Orville Wright. He added that Orville can now “fly with the birds, oh how he loved birds.”

After taxiderming his cat, radio controlled helicopter custom electronics were installed in order to give Orville flight.

Jansen handled the stuffing of Orville, then teamed up with radio control helicopter flyer Arjen Beltman who built the specially-designed flying mechanism to attach to the cat.

Orville the flying cat is currently on display at the Kunstrai art festival in Amsterdam where visitors can watch him fly around the gallery.

That is a wonderful thing to do for his beloved cat.
But scaring cows doesn’t seem fair.
Why not have him go after flying birds instead.
I have seen many birds dive bombing cats for no apparent reason, and turn about would be fair play.

  1. If Orville had been my cat, I would memorialize him in song and let hsi body rest in peace. This guy Jansen is a nut.
